Asteroid oz. Jam Box. WebObjects.

- Automator integration: instead of writing the business logic in Java yourself, you can now build the complete workflow with Automator (Tiger no longer required). - DirectFromBrain: if you don't want to use Automator, you can have a chip implanted directly into your brain that will implement the business logic as you think about it. Project WONDER announced a major improvement to DirectFromBrain which makes it possible to compile your application even before you have started programming. The BrainClipse plugin will be used to refactor the developer thoughts even before DirectFromBrain implements them. The BrainClipse pre-alpha version contains a minor bug that might affect your love life your speech center. No details were given but a bug fix is expected soon. - DirectToNewestJavaCollections: One core feature of WebObjects 6 will be the ability to adapt itself to the Java Collections interfaces of the Week. com.webobjects.foundation will contain NSAdaptiveArray that will reprogram itself to suit the JDK that is currently en vogue. Rumor has it that Cliff Tuel programmed the adaptive foundation classes after reaching for his flapper to squash a little bee that was flying through his office buzzing: "Foundation is bad, foundation is bad!" - DirectToNewestOSRelease: The WebObjects developer tools and frameworks were rewritten to feature automatic API adaption. Thus, you will not only be able to use future JDKs without any modification of WO, but also every new OS release as the tools will adapt themselves to the new APIs. WOBuilder now uses WebCore and is configurable to look exactly like Dreamweaver, Golive or BBEdit (other skins available upon request). - DirectToProgrammingLanguage: Applications developed with Automator or DirectFromBrain can generate source code in ObjectiveC, Webscript, Java, Ruby or Perl. The frameworks that generates the Ruby source code is reportedly called "WebObjects on Wheels" and is, of course, much better than Java. - DirectToMailingList: WebObjects 6 integrates a new feature into every application that regularly sends depressed letters from a whining developer to webobjects-dev. You can choose between various pre-configured whinings (such as "Apple does not support WebObjects", "Where is WebObjects for Mac OS 10.6 that will be released in two years", "Why does XCode suck so much", "Why does the new WO release not run on Rhapsody?", "Why does my old WO release not run on 10.7?", "Why does Project Wonder break on a new WO release?"), The whining will be repeated every time Apple does not announce a major WO update, if Apple _does_ announce a major WO update, and if Apple announces a new OS release. The e-mails will adapt automatically to the situation so that you do not have to worry about writing them yourselves. DirectFromPracticalWO: Together with WebObjects 6, Apple also releases a mailing list manager tool that will automatically find the right page in Practical WebObjects to answer every question on the mailing list. New solutions are automatically added to Practical WebObjects. - DirectToOpenSource: WebObjects 6 will reveal its own source code under a free software license of your choice with the click of a button. Thus, everyone will be happy: those who only work with GPL'ed code and those who don't want to. - DirectToCustomerBuzzword: WebObjects 6 will automatically refactor itself to contain the buzzword list your client likes best, no matter if it is .NET, Ajax or J2EE. - DirectToCustomerPrice: WebObjects will adjust its own price to the client's idea of a robust enterprise framework. So if some of you play the role of a cool consultant who only works with tools &rt; USD 20,000, WO will switch to "Oracle mode" and cost 50,000 USD again and an additional 10$ per request per minute per CPU. Those who need open source tools because they cannot use anything else for religious reasons can use WO in GPL mode. In GPL mode, the GUIs will look a bit crappier and this mode will be unsupported. WebObjects 6 will also available for Windows Longhorn editions. |
